Reduce consultants contracts and central bloat, and support the services that *actually* help students. Don't cut RJ, SEIU, psychologists, and other classified staff that support students every single day.

I was a tescher in OUSD from 1998 to 2013. These budget problems & constant threats of cutbacks have never stopped. It’s time to stop paying consultants $19 million a year. And time to reduce administrative positions with 6 figure salaries. Support the students & teachers .

As a Special Educator at Allendale elementary I know that classified staff are essential to my students safety, well-being and learning. Please do not lay off people that help our most vulnerable students. Find the money that you need from other places. Restorative practice is especially important in a diverse city like Oakland. Thank you.

As a teacher at Emerson Elementary, I know first hand that our students deserve more support, not less. Instead of cutting student programs and laying off the most vulnerable employees in OUSD, the School Board needs to get to finally get serious about providing students with preventive options such as RJ, and cut money from the police department instead. We prioritize policing our children instead of mainting the staff we need and the supports the students need to be successful.

As a teacher at Urban Promise Academy I know first hand that our students deserve more support, not less. Instead of cutting student programs and laying off the most vulnerable employees in OUSD, the School Board needs to get to finally get serious about restructuring central administration, get a handle on growing consulting costs, and stop hiding needed funds in books and supplies.

If the district really wants to support our students teachers and staff they’d cut the spending for OUSD School Police That 6Million Dollars could be used elsewhere instead of contributing to locking our Black and Brown youth in jail!!!

This is an unacceptable display of force to deter the building of momentum for Oakland's right to public education. These cuts couls only be considered in good faith after we stop paying rent at 1000 broadway and we conduct a deep audit of district consultants and administrators.

I am a substitute teacher with OUSD, and I am apalled at the behavior of the School Board and Superindtendant. To cut these programs and then blame it on teachers fighting for the public school system is a disgrace. These budget cuts did not have to be done in order to give teachers raises and stop closing public schools. The District should focus more on cutting administrative costs and less on creating reserve funds. Why is there millions of dollars of unused money set aside for supplies too?

Hi School Board - I am a proud OUSD/OEA member teacher at Roosevelt Middle School. Please take the time to do the job you have been elected to. Get serious about restructuring central administration, stop increasing consulting costs (we can do many of these functions in-house), and stop hiding money. Instead of cutting student programs and laying off the most vulnerable employees in OUSD, the School Board needs to listen to the community, listen to their hearts, and do what is right.

As a special education teacher, I know the difference that classified employees can make in a students's life because I work with excellent paraprofessionals who are members of SEIU and AFSCME. Our students deserve more support, not less.

Restructure the central administration, get a handle on growing consulting costs, and stop hiding needed funds in books and supplies. Don't cut the supports our kids need, and don't try to divide OEA and SEIU. Do what is right and put the students first.

The financial situation in OUSD needs to be changed to serve the needs of students, teachers, classified support staff and to keep schools open. As a teacher at Franklin Elementary School in OUSD, I know first hand that our students deserve more support, not less. Instead of cutting student programs and laying off classified employees in OUSD, the School Board needs to restructure central administration, dramatically lower consulting costs, and stop hiding needed funds in books and supplies."

We teachers are united. Dear School board, if you all continue to spin tales of truth to hurt our union and make financial cuts to our schools , you will force the teachers to rise up again and oppose you. We teachers, stand ready to apply our collective power to convince you, to administer policy that supports, sustains and allows us, your teachers to teach; to teach in an environment that supports our children (students) and allows us, your teachers, to excel as educators in the classroom.

The district is CHOOSING to cut these valuable positions. Having worked in many districts, I’m appalled by the top heaviness in OUSD and the data that continues to scream out that putting more directors, network partners, and not providing direct professional development for all teachers in curricumum, RJ, best practice,...IS NOT WORKING. Put the money where it matters Oakland just like the other districts that are thriving! Learn from your mistakes.

Your blame of the teachers instead of the ridiculous, exorbitant amount spent on outside consultants is egregious. And the waste in Administration (duplicating "responsibilities" )? You are WELL aware that NO money need be taken from student programs or support staff you could reapportion funds wasted on other than student related needs. Are you REALLY so concerned about student success ? Retaining good teachers ? Let's see some evidence; protecting administration positions is NOT a priority !
