As a 7th grader in ousd, I am more educated on Palestine/Isreal than some of the adults in these comments, because I can understand how innocent people suffer and die because of people who think it is a joke. I've seen some videos of people making fun of the war. I am in support of Palestine.

I am a D3 voter and community member. I demand that the OUSD Board hold a special meeting next week to introduce a resolution for a Permanent Ceasefire.
OUSD has made contradictory statements to families, about why Wednesday's meeting was canceled. OUSD publicly expressed that the cancellation was due to "ongoing public safety concerns at our Board meetings," which is clearly an anti-Arab, racist, and Islamophobic reference to the community that has shown up to support the ceasefire resolution. I oppose OUSD's consistent anti-Arab and Islamophobic position toward students and censorship of Palestine in schools. We need action and a ceasefire. Enough innocent lives have already been lost in this genocide.

As a member of the community I demand that a meeting be called in which a permanent ceasefire resolution for the war in Gaza is put forth and voted on.

As a matter of fact I know that some people that are writing these comments need to get thier information straight. The conflict between Palestine/ Isreal isn't something that we could just ignore, there are children in Palestine my age that have to be scared and aware of thier surroundings afraid that they'll get shot at when they should be playing around enjoying thier childhood while they can. I don't know who in thier right mind would think that it's okay to let this happen. I am a 7th grader who already knows the truth.

I am an OUSD Educator, and Jewish Oakland resident, writing to demand that the board schedule a special meeting next week to discuss and vote on the Permanent Ceasefire Resolution no. 2234-0159. The Israeli military attack on Gaza has led to over 18,000 deaths, more than half children. OUSD students, families and staff have lost family members and are directly affected by this humanitarian crisis.

We cannot selectively focus on one community’s feeling of safety or insecurity, while overlooking the lived experiences of another, particularly the Arab and Palestinian community. We must recognize that Islamophobia and anti semitism are intrinsically linked to white supremacy, and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza is a recognition of collective humanity and makes us all safer.

I am a parent of 2 OUSD students. I support a resolution calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. I want my children's teachers to feel empowered to teach about the history and current day situation of Palestine without being worried they will lose their jobs. Our children deserve to know the truth about the roots of what is happening today. OUSD is censoring teachers and families. As a member of mixed Muslim-Sikh household, OUSD is not prioritizing the safety and inclusion of our students and is demonstrating clear Islamophobia.

I am a D2 voter and a D1 teacher and am so deeply disappointed (again) in this board. The thinly veiled language accusing Arab & Muslim students, families, and community members of creating an unsafe situation is appalling. The refusal to listen to community members share about their experiences as a genocide of Palestinians wages on is appalling. The threat of discipline against teachers who choose to teach about Palestine is appalling. You may have forgotten, but you work for your constituents who voted you into office. Hold a special meeting to read, discuss and debate Director Bachelor’s ceasefire resolution and stop running and hiding from the community you claim to represent.

I can’t believe I have to write this AGAIN bc our community has been given the run around, but as an OUSD parent w Muslim roots and family, I support this resolution, the teach-in, and the NON VIOLENT energy and love Oakland’s pro-Palestine community of educators and parents have been funneling into this cause. We do not want to see people dying in Gaza. We do not want to have to explain to our children why bombs are being dropped on children. My son asked “Will a bomb be dropped on Oakland?” We have spoken at the city council meetings, I personally have emailed you and my son’s principal more than once and YOU HAVE NOT RESPONDED. Respond by passing this resolution and know your reputation is tarnished.

    Hello,
I am a [parent/community member] of OUSD writing in support of the resolution calling for a permanent ceasefire in Palestine. The Israeli military attack on Gaza has led to over 18,000 deaths, more than half children. Millions of innocent people are suffering or in harm’s way due to the continued US-sponsored assault on Gaza, and OUSD students, families and district staff have lost family members and are directly affected by this humanitarian crisis. OUSD has chosen to adopt a harmful culture of silence by failing to ensure our Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim families feel respected and acknowledged as valued members of our community during this crisis. Given OUSD’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and cultural responsiveness, I urge OUSD to show it values our Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim community members in this historic time of grief and injustice by supporting this resolution for permanent ceasefire.

I am a voter in D1 (along with multiple voting family members), and third-generation in the Town.

As a district, what is happening in Palestine directly impacts the lives of students, parents, staff, and educators here in Oakland.

In the face of budget cuts, our tax dollars are being sent to support militarization instead of educating our youth.

It is disappointing that meetings are being postponed in a way that limits community access to participating in public comment and a democratic process.

Specifically, using a narrative of fear that is criminalizing the community for speaking up and organizing, by labeling the Arab, Muslim, Yemeni, and Palestinian community and allies as “threatening” as justification for canceling or rescheduling board meetings at the last minute, is harmful and contradicts the message that OUSD is a “sanctuary” district where “you are welcome here.”

We cannot let a culture of silence prevent us from SUPPORTING a resolution for a permanent ceasefire now.

You are running away from the Arab community like scared kids unwilling to be held accountable. I demand you call for a meeting next week where you introduce the permanent ceasefire resolution for the war on Gaza, agendize the resolution, discussed it, and voted on.
Upward of 20,000 Palestinian civilians have already been murdered. Israel has targeted hospitals, schools, Churches, and Mosques. We are witnessing a genocide broadcast live in HD. It is our responsibility to stand up for human dignity and follow in Oakland City Council's footsteps in passing a ceasefire resolution.
The genocide we are watching unfold has a direct impact on the OUSD community. Arab and Muslim students have faced more discrimination and targeting over the past 2 months. When leaders justify the genocide committed by Israel they dehumanize the Arab community.

As an OUSD student I have never felt the urge to come on here and post a comment didn’t even know I can do that.

But I see my classmates who are losing family daily.. and the you as the board are refusing to listen to them..

As the board for ousd you are suppose to stand with families regardless of your political views!! But instead of protecting them you are putting a target on there back.

I am not sure why my comment was erased and I’m not sure why you would illegally cancel a board meeting when your community so desperately needs you to stand up and support them! This is so dystopian.

Please pass a ceasefire resolution now! CHILDREN ARE BEING SLAUGHTERED

After tonight’s parent square message I don’t feel safe writing my name nor attending school.

Palestinians are killed every few minutes. And if they escaped the bombing they are starving to death.

Explain to me why as a board you can’t pass something that just stands with humanity!

You are not only representing us but now putting our lives in danger!
