I support weekly testing and also want much better and clearer communication from OUSD on exposure/quarantine policies. What kind of testing needs to happen upon exposure and after how many days need to be clearly laid out. When kids have to quarantine (including while waiting for test results) they need to be offered online school options, etc.

Having weekly testing will greatly support effective slowing of the spread of COVID-19. To achieve weekly testing, it is critical to pay health care and support staff living wages. #keepourkidssafe

Parent of three OUSD students--two at Skyline, one at Sequoia--and I strongly support weekly testing of ALL students. Taking this additional precaution would make a huge difference to many families, limiting exposure, lost work hours, illness and even possibly saving the lives of students, staff, family and community members.

I support the resolution with amendments from VP Davis as it provides more flexible testing, prioritizes resources and was done in consultation with district staff so roll out should be seamless. I urge the board to vote accordingly.

I support weekly PCR testing at all school sites. Making testing easily available to everyone enables those who are currently voluntarily testing weekly to continue, as well as for the critical symptomatic/known exposure testing to happen reliably. I support the portion of Dir. Davis's proposal to expand the hours of testing so that students voluntarily testing do not have to miss school time to do so. I urge the Board to go beyond both of these proposals and mandate universal weekly testing, regardless of vaccination status, like LAUSD and WCCU. Modeling from scientists at NC State shows that bi-weekly mandatory testing (school divided into two random groups that each get tested every other week) could reduce the infection rate among susceptible students by 50% beyond that of universal masking; without this, their modeling suggests that up to 50% of susceptible students would get infected at the elementary level (assuming 30% incoming protection) - Parent of a susceptible 2nd grader

I'm a Sequoia and Bret Harte parent. Without weekly PCR testing for all OUSD students and staff, and with the Delta variant, we will see increased spread at school sites including by asymptomatic students and staff. We need to be proactive in preventing the spread of COVID, especially considering many of our schoolchildren are not eligible for vaccination. LAUSD has a regular PCR testing program using a cost-effective lab that produces results overnight so that parents and schools can make informed choices that will prevent the spread of COVID. I strongly support OUSD adopting a weekly PCR testing program for every student and staff ASAP.

Testing at all schools sites is needed as soon as possible. It’s too burdensome for families and teachers to travel to a different school sites for regular testing. We need to be more proactive in preventing the spread of COVID.

I support weekly PCR testing, pooled and/or individual, for all of our unvaccinated staff and students ON SITE, as well as 50% FTE COVID leads at all school sites. Learning is great but it is a waste of time if my kid dies of COVID...so let's do what we can with the funds we've been given to keep our kids as safe as possible.
Respectfully, an anxious, risk-averse elementary school mom

Regular on-site testing will make it that much more convenient for families to get students testing and reduce the barrier for entry, enabling everyone to stay safer.

I support this but it does not go far enough. PLEASE require vaccines for ages 12+ within whatever limits CA law imposes on this. There is a lot of support for this at our school. Our school is already testing students. Governing bodies need to take the lead here, not lag behind what schools are trying to do.
