I am commenting as a parent of a disabled OUSD student, the Co-Chair of CAC, and an OUSD Sped Educator for over 15 years. As a SPED case manager at the HS level, I have long understood how important this program is for our disabled young adults. I was so upset to learn that, once again, our disabled community members were left out of opportunities they deserve to be part of. I am happy to learn that the conversations that have been brought to the table by disability advocates have been heard and have made a difference, that YAP students will receive funding in the coming school year. However, there is still the matter of the years YAP students were deprived of their rightful opportunites, and we would love to see transparency around how this panel will be making this right. This is a conversation that should be happening with solutions being created. Thank you.
