Although this item is just being introduced at the end of this meeting, I am writing to Express a Strong SUpport of the plan to make schools safer and my joyful through music and proper language use, while protecting our most vulnerable black students and students of colour with disabilities. It's Critical OUSD make a stand NOW, to Committ to protecting our most vulnerable students while providing ongoing consistent services they can depend on and count on for the sake of their development. I would like to Personally Thank, President Davis, Vice President Hutchinson, Director Brouhard, The Very Special Music therapist, Ms. Barsotti, MR. Rydeen, Mr. Porter, as well as the parent leaders in both committees I serve on, as well as other parent leaders in other committees, supporting this plan. Our kids so much need this. Our students are counting on the district to make this a reality.
OUSD must continue to create policy that centers our most vulnerable learners, including those with disabilities. This resolution focuses on the arts and on ways to creatively engage students who are not always easily engaged, and who statistically are more likely to face trauma and mental health challenges. It is an important initiative that should benefit our children, educators and school conmmunities.
This is an important initiative and I hope that it is carefully considered. I believe it is vital that we continue to create safe spaces for our young learners that recognizes them for who they are: students that want to be successful.
School wide traditions and arts engagement are two ways of creating inclusive community.. More important than passing this resolution is follow through with this resolution so that all students actually receive the benefits intended for them!
My name is Tiffany M and I want to show support that we need to invest in our kids futures. Ensuring all kids are deserving of a quality education and to not be moved around or forced to attend in new settings every other year. Please adopt our resolution.
Music and arts are a huge benefit to dis/abled kids and this would be an excellent way to use these funds. Given how disabled students have been cheated in measure hand n funding tho would be a start to healing the damage OUSD’s ableist attitudes.
