Another shout-out for the release of a 2025-2026 academic calendar. Please let us know how we can help expedite this. I do not know what was behind last year's holdup, resulting in an April 2024 reveal, but if there is anything parents can do to prevent a repeat, please tell us. Many families missed out on summer camp spots and early bird discounts due to last year's delay.
Thank you for finally deciding to teach about anti semitism. However It’s a bit too late. the damage is done. Oakland has proven it’s not a safe space unless you tick identified minority boxes. Jewish children have left the district in droves. Congrats, not since nazi occupied Europe, have Jewish children have to flee their homes. You must be proud.
Thank you for hosting the JCRC today for a district PD offering on antisemitism. This is a small step in the right direction to rectify the harm done to Jewish students and staff in the last year + in our district community. I applaud you for trying to help us feel welcome again and for trying to send the message that hate will not be tolerated. Please disseminate this training widely and consider making it mandatory for more student-facing staff. Thank you again for bravely addressing head on an issue that many seem afraid to acknowledge exists.
I would like to applaud the School Board for offering antisemitism training. With the astronomical rise in antisemitism throughout the Bay, it is important that our Jewish students and faculty feel supported as well. Education makes all the difference.
Can we please prioritize setting the calendar so that all who rely on the school calendar can plan accordingly? As you may know, it requires significant planning ahead for childcare during the summer. We heard last year that there would be efforts to resolve this earlier in the year, for 2025-2026, but we appear to be on the same delayed timeline. Thank you for doing your best to focus on the families and teachers / staff, and not software, systems, or processes.
As an OUSD parent it is incredibly frustrating that the board has yet to set the academic calendar for the 25-26 school year. A plea for you to get together with your labor partners and hr systems folks (so you can avoid the fiasco that was last year’s calendar process) and present a three year calendar at the next board meeting. It’s a bit hard to understand how you have begun the enrollment process to recruit new families to the district, yet you cannot tell them when school starts.
PLEASE set a 2025-2026 academic calendar ASAP. Why is it not on this month's agenda? Parents and teachers NEED THIS! It's time. It's past time. I know there is a lot going on with mergers, budgets, the lead crisis, but the basic running of a school district necessitates that staff and families know when summer ends and when the kids go back to school. We need to run things smoothly. Please make this happen and push the labor partners to finalize this NOW.
