I am firming against school mergers. They equate to closing schools, and they do not save money. Please find other ways to actually ease this 92 million dollar deficit. Do not balance the budget on the backs of vulnerable families.

I oppose the proposed school mergers and closures. School mergers are not proven to save money nor improve student outcomes. Instead, they will eliminate bilingual programs, eliminate United for Success Academy for immigrant students, increase racial disparities (these mergers affect predominantly Black and Brown students), increase unemployment (as teachers and staff are laid off), and worsen student outcomes. As an Oakland resident and homeowner, I think this is terrible policy. Please protect our safe, small, and quality schools by voting NO on this proposal.
