We call on President Davis to follow our democratic processes and place Resolution No. 2324-0159 (Permanent Ceasefire Resolution) on the agenda for a vote, which the majority of the OUSD Board of Education directors support agendizing. Please stop silencing our Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim families, who do not feel safe or supported by OUSD during this humanitarian crisis.

We demand that you support the ceasefire resolution to stop the genocide in Gaza, enabled by Israel and the United States. Liberation of all of occupied Palestine is the permanent solution!

Stop dividing on skin color. Stop picking sides as if this is Team Israel or Team Palestine, or Team White, or Team Black and Brown. If that is what OUSD is teaching, then woe to us all for taking giant steps backwards on the path to the dream of MLK. We must, absolutely must, work towards a future where everyone, Palestinian and Israeli, included, can live in peace and safety. Neither live in peace or safety today. Yes, a permanent ceasefire, the surrender of Hamas and expulsion from office of Netanyahu and cronies, will bring us closer. But what I read in these comments and in the resolution is not a clarion call for a ceasefire and a long term peace, but a barely veiled call for violence towards Israel and Jewish people, and the resurgence of simmering historical Jewish hatred. We must continue to appeal to universal values and recognize the humanity of every Palestinian, and of every Israeli. The only answer is a multi-state solution. Anything else is an unthinkable horror.

My name is Jimmy Barbuto and I have been a teacher at Skyline for 10 years. Skyline has suffered from incidents related to the rise in community violence, despite the hard work of Skyline workers, tirelessly out of love for our students. We have repeatedly asked the district to send more resources so that we can continue supporting our students. The district has failed to counteract a harmful narrative about our campus, and is now attempting consolidations, due to the district's failure of leadership in supporting our campus’ enrollment. Next year, proposed cuts include elimination of a 9th grade house. Our students and community deserve stability, not austerity and underinvestment. We ask the district to continue supporting our community, with its strong pathways, and amazing arts, SPED, athletic, Newcomer, and freshman Atlas House programs, towards long term sustainability and to help us regrow our enrollment towards a bright future for the many children and and workers of Oakland.

I am a teacher at Skyline High School. In the face of declining enrollment, I think it's really important that we allocate our funding from the district to support the amazing things happening at our school. Instead of potentially closing a Pathway or House or consolidating teachers, what if we provided the resources for the students to feel safe, and the proper amount of resources for students to thrive. When other schools have seen their facilities upgraded and budgets increased, families vote with their feet and bring their kids to enroll in OUSD. When families see that their students sit in classrooms that overheat, or broken bathrooms, or moldy classrooms, or underfunded STEAM programs, they vote with their feet and transfer their students out of district. The way to fix under-enrollment is to invest in schools more, not pull back and consolidate.

We demand that President Davis adhere himself to the bylaw of the OUSD board, and AGENDIZE THE CEASEFIRE RESOLUTION that a majority of the board supports. During his first month in office, President Davis has illegally silenced the ceasefire resolution, which a majority of the board wants to agendize (OUSD Bylaw 9322). Arab, Muslim and Palestinian students do not feel safe at school because of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, the silence in their schools, and the censorship around talking about Palestine. This is causing a significant drop in attendance from our Arab students. President Davis is responsible for representing OUSD students and following our democratic processes to address school district concerns. This resolution process has included countless meetings with board members and community members who are responding to the impact of this humanitarian crisis on our students. President Davis - Stop silencing community voices and agendize Resolution No. 2324-0159 for a vote.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a cease-fire plan delivered by the Palestinian militant group Hamas to end the war in Gaza. Netanyahu called the plan "delusional" and noted that it would have left Hamas in power of the Gaza Strip at the end of the phased truce… FREE PALESTINE

Oakland schools are a place of refuge for black and brown students to feel empowered and safe. They can learn about their ancestors’ liberation struggles as they grow into their own powerful identities. We owe it to them to honor their intelligence and the wisdom that has been handed down to them and acknowledge the genocide occurring in Gaza and the role of the US government. They are leaning about this reality on social media and passing a ceasefire resolution is a beautiful way to stand behind them and help them hold their grief in this moment of grave violence and injustice. They can see the legacy of our collective heroes in us, in our ability to stand in our courage and integrity and speak the truth as they lead the way alongside us. Ceasefire now!
