As an OUSD substitute teacher and former full-time OUSD teacher, I ask that you please support Craig Gordon and other OEA members facing OUSD retaliation for union activity by attending the press conference/rally and speak out this Wednesday, Jan. 24. There will be a press conference/rally at 4:30 p.m. in front of La Escuelita (1050 2nd Ave.) and a speak out at the school board meeting afterward in La Escuelita’s Great Room. As you may know, in 2022 OUSD unlawfully fired Craig in retaliation for his effective, persistent union activity. As an OEA rep, Craig pursued many grievances for members, initiated and led an arbitration that awarded back pay to substitute teachers, and helped organize union actions, including strikes. The District claims Craig’s termination was due to his participation in the peaceful occupation at Parker School in 2022 to resist the district’s racist school closures.
I support the rehiring of Craig Gordon who was singled out and retaliated against for his activism in the fight against school closures and other struggles in the district over the years.
