No other district is masking kids
to make adults else feel better about their anxiety. It breaks my heart that kids in Oakland are the last remaining group to breathe freely when they are not at risk of covid to begin with. Shame on you for muzzling children.

I support lifting the mandate. Mandating masks for school kids is an irrational policy. There has been zero discussion of the downsides of this policy, and mounting evidence that masking kids doesn’t protect them or the community. COVID rates will rise and fall, but that doesn’t mean I want my kids to be part of the largest social experiment ever. Stop the insanity and unmask our kids.

In support of optional indoor masking asap. Would love to hear OUSD’s rationale for waiting when neighboring districts have not? It’s a bit embarrassing. Transparency please.

I’m begging you to allow students the OPTION to unmask. Any student, teacher who is immunocompromised can fully protect themselves by getting vaccinated and utilizing an N95 mask, while still giving the freedom to other students to not utilize a mask should they desire to do so. The risk of illness from covid is statistically zero. It is a real shame that OUSD is the lone district still masking young faces. OUSD is not qualified to make public health decisions.

OUSD is not a public health agency. It should defer to the PH agencies at the federal, state, and county level who have all removed mask mandates in schools. Every surrounding district has also aligned with their county and the state to give families and staff a choice. OUSD has not explained to families the rationale for them not aligning besides "conferring with stakeholders" which have once again not included parents and students. The district is once again not being transparent with families and while the majority of the board has expressed a desire to align with the county and state, they have also refused to act in the best interest of children. You accelerated your decision on outdoor masking, you can do the same on indoor and not wait until April 15 to align with county and state PH guidance.

I support aligning with state and county public health departments by lifting the indoor mask mandate immediately, just as all surrounding school districts have already done. OUSD is not qualified to act as a public health entity and has kept kids masked outdoors and indoors longer than any surrounding school district. Please follow science and public health guidelines and allow children and staff to make their own choice about masking in school. Thank you.
