I would just like to voice my frustration at the late date that this is being decided, and plead as a parent (and OUSD staff) that the district, union, and school board work much harder to prioritize finalizing the next year’s academic calendar by the end of winter break going forward. Summer camp enrollment for children in this area opens in January for some camps, and families NEED this info to prepare, especially if they are working families and need childcare. This year has been especially frustrating with news unofficially circulating widely for many weeks in the community that the school year would start 8/15 up until a few days ago. I, along with many others, planned summer trips and camps accordingly. It is unfair to ask families and staff to sit tight and wait when folks are planning their summers in January. PLEASE don’t keep doing this to us. Many will not recoup the costs of camps or flights this year. It’s very upsetting and seems totally unnecessary.
