Closing schools without more community and State engagement is a violation of equity and too much of a hardship for families. We can be more thoughtful and responsible taking this time

Closing our schools is causing irreparable harm to schools, children, families, and communities. I urge you to press pause on this and involve the communities and stakeholders in the important work of problem solving to improve conditions in our district WITHOUT closing our schools.

I am a parent of two OUSD students and I support this resolution to postpone the school closures. This whole rapid process of pushing through such dramatic changes to the lives of families, teachers, staff, and the larger community needs to be paused and used as an opportunity to collectively come together to make sustainable and creative solutions so our students can thrive.

I support this resolution. No school closures. This is short sighted and ignores the pleas of the parents and children in these schools. As a parent of a now adult child who attended Oakland public schools all we ever heard was, we need parental involvement. 1000 people repeatedly on Zoom calls is just that. Yet many on the board ignore this and disrespect the very clear messages from teachers, students, parents and other community members. How dare you ask people to change schools during a global pandemic. This is outrageous. This is a terrible idea and a harmful one. It is abundantly clear that the people who this impacts are against this. School boards must collaborate with, take direction from and serve the communities who elect them. Please delay these closures and consolidations.

Please delay this harmful school closure until our kids can recover from the trauma of the past two years. Make good choices and please do better

I support this resolution to postpone school closures until 2023-2024. The current resolution doesn't give families enough time to apply for a new school, especially as they're still adjusting to in person learning.
