I am grateful for all the work you’ve put in to assure the community this can be done safely and for putting science and the needs of our students first.
Thank you OUSD for reopening schools! My 2nd grader talks non-stop of her day at school, from what she's learned in class, to her tablemates and the new friends she's making on the playground. She is overjoyed to be back and I wanted to take a minute to thank OUSD and the board for making it happen. I also want to extend our great appreciation to the staff and teachers as well, who care so much for the students and families.
Thank you so much for reopening schools safely. My son comes home every day from school saying how it was the best day of his life. On Friday he was upset that it was the weekend. He asked if he could sleep at school. It feels very safe with the kids eating all meals outside and everyone complying with masking. Thank you again!
Thank you for reopening schools to daily, in-person instruction. Our child is *thrilled* to be back at school. I cannot overstate how important it is for him to be back in the classroom with his teacher and classmates. The past 18 months were remarkably unhealthy for him, his development, and our family. It sounds to us like OUSD has a solid plan to keep everyone as safe and healthy as is possible under the circumstances, and we are more than comfortable with sending our son. We know there will be pressure from some quarters to revert to distance learning, but we urge OUSD in the strongest possible terms to stay the course and keep doing the right thing for kids and families by keeping schools open. Thank you!
My family is thrilled that schools are fully open this year. We feel safe and secure. My two elementary age sons (who are unvaxxed) are so much happier, more engaged, and simply VIBRANT now that they are back in school with their peers and awesome teachers. They want to be more active after school, too, with their friends. They were so disengaged and addicted to screens last year that we are amazed at the difference in their attitudes and interests already. Thank you, OUSD, for finally doing right by our children, and recognizing that schools are essential for their growth and success.
Thank you for reopening schools. The mitigated risk of masked in person education is well worth the benefits for our kids and communities. Thank you for doing the hard work to make it happen. Our family is grateful.
Thank you OUSD for opening our elementary school again for full-time in-person learning again. My 2nd grader and 4th grader are so excited to be back on campus with their teachers and friends. Teachers seem really happy to be back in the classroom with a normal schedule and it is amazing to see how their enthusiasm is helping us to rebuild our sense of community and reconnect with one another. I appreciate all the hard work all staff has done to make sure things are as safe as possible. Of course there is still a lot of work to be done to get all our students what they deserve (e.g. reading on grade level by 3rd grade, not waiting months or years for an IEP, more support in fulfilling the A-G requirements so they can attend a UC/CSU), but I don’t want us to lose sight of the many things that are going well. Thank you for all—teachers, non-teaching staff, administrators, and central m office staff—for your tireless dedication to our students and families.
Thank you for prioritizing in-person instruction with nuanced protocols that are keeping our kids safe! Our first grader is so happy to be back at school and learning in community. It's a massive undertaking and I appreciate so much the resolve, thick skin, and nimbleness of the whole operation -- from the district to the classroom level. Thank you and please, please, please continue to prioritize in-person learning.
I just want to say how excited my K and 1st grader have been since school began a few weeks ago. They are loving it! Thank you, OUSD board members, teachers and staff for working tirelessly to make this happen!
Thank you ousd for opening our school. My kids are so excited to be back, to be with their teachers and friends. I especially want to appreciate the admin team under the leadership of principal Bri at MLA. They have done an amazing job safely opening school. The teachers have also been so supportive, positive and welcoming. We’re so happy to be back!
We are so happy that OUSD is open and back in action. Thank you! We have noticed a huge difference in our daughter's mental and social well-being. We are very supportive of how OUSD has realistically and practically handled the "variant threat", which had been held out as a potential reason not to re-open. OUSD is demonstrating that we can live with the Covid, which is here to stay, and that our kids' academic and social lives are the number one priority!
Thank you OUSD for all your work that made opening schools and keeping them open possible. Thank you also for letting school sports and other activities continue. We know how complicated things are and are thankful for each day our students can learn in person. Thank you.

As an essential worker & mom of three, in-person school full time for all has been life changing for our family. We had a positive experience with the rapid response team after our youngest was exposed & feel confident that our children are safe in school. Looking forward to a great year!
I am so happy that my Kindergartener and 3rd grader are in school! They have not been this happy since before the pandemic. Even the little routine things in school are absolutely thoroughly enjoyed and celebrated by my children. Thank you!
