H.-2 20-2040 Decision Public Hearing by the Board of Education adopting Staff Report - Recommendations/Findings - Approving AIMS K-12 College Prep Charter District - AIMS College Prep High School (formerly American Indian Public High School) - Petition and Proposed Charter - Grades 9-12 - July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2026 (5 Year Renewal).
As the leader of a coalition of families of nearly 17,000 students in Oakland who are committed to increase inn access among underserved Oakland communities to high quality schools, I am honored to share my strong recommendation for approval of the AIMS HS renewal.
I ask the OUSD board to renew the charter for AIMS Middle and High School. AIMS offers a diverse culture, great staff, caring and smart teachers and quality classes. I have 2 kids currently in AIMS, one in High School and one in elementary. I am so happy and extremely grateful that they are able to attend such a quality school like AIMS. Please renew AIMS charter. Thank you.
I am the Executive Director at Oakland Enrolls, a nonprofit that aims to empower families to choose the best public school for their child. Our organization also manages the common charter application, of which AIMS has been a part since its inception. AIMS' Superintendent Maya Woods-Cadiz, is also a committed founding member of Oakland Enrolls' Steering Committee, where she advocates for families and school quality. AIMS' dedication to providing high-quality school options to families is apparent and I am proud to work with them.
On behalf of the California Charter Schools Association, I strongly urge the OUSD board to renew the charter for AIMSK12 High School. I have been apart of the AIMS administration for the last seven years and I am proud to be apart of an organization that has truly made a difference in education for children of color and children that have been traditionally underserved. AIMS continues to raise the bar of multi-dimensional academic excellence while meeting the fundamental and socio-emotional needs of our students. There is a strong emphasis of identity and social development and supporting and creating a school environment that is always developing, complex and rich.
We are truly a family at AIMS and we want to continue to help our families succeed and break systemic racism and the cycle of poverty.
I am supporting aims school because aims the best school for my kids they are really doing great job great teachers and excellent administration's especially in this crazy pandemic time. Thank you.
AIMS is creates remarkable opportunites for all of its students to achieve: students receive rigorous instruction in a supportive environment, affording them exposure to college- level content. Students get into excellent colleges largely because they receive exceptional academic counseling and support through the college admissions process. Additionally, AIMS students have a leg up academically AND financially by the time they arrive to college, because they have already accrued a substantial amount of college credits by way of the AP tests. AIMS removes financial barriers by acutally paying for these exams, so that no student is deprived of the opportunity to demonstrate the remarkable education they have received; this saves thousands in potential tuition costs. Students in Oakland face enormous systemic inequalities and are often deprived of access and resources, but we are doing everything in our power to give students the opportunities so many never receive.

I am supporting AIMS HIGH SCHOOL, because our Students deserve a quality education and in this Case AIMS HIGH SCHOOL is the best option for her because not all Oakland school have been having 100% of their high schoolers entering to a 4 year university, I need my student can have the chance to take high quality college pathways programs, economic support for her AP’s, SAT and PSAT and Colleges Applications. As a low income parent I support AIMS HIGH SCHOOL because I want my you g student have a good educational future. I know if you as OUSD Board members approve the Charter Renewal for AIMS High School. I watched as my neighbors four children excelled and went on to UC Berkeley from a school Called American Indian.
I looked into putting my 5 children there as well and that was a great decision. My children are being supported as they are expected to set high goals for themselves and be supported by the school and their family as they achieve a solid educational foundation that will allow them more options for their future.
I wholeheartedly support AIMS College Prep High as they look to help citizens of Oakland to thrive.
I support AIMS High School charter renewal. AIMS provides a quality education and provides the students with the necessary tools they need to help them excel. The staff truly invests in our children and our community. The College Pathways program that affords our students the opportunity to take college courses and gain college credits is bar none. Prepping them for college is paramount to their success in life. And that is exactly what the Leadership, Teachers and Staff do here at AIMS HS.
I have a 9th grader whose attended AIMS since 6th grade. She has blossomed into a very confident and out going young lady. She is very serious about her grades and has found her passion in debate. The opportunities are endless! As a parent, I love to see her receive and maintain a quality education. If for some reason the charter is not renewed, she will definitely be attending a private school. Please renew AIMS charter!

Please renew AIMS’ charter. The school does a great job of providing the best education to a diverse group of students. I highly ask the OUSD to renew the extending term of the AIMS charter. Because of the quality education and supported staff at AIMs school my children are able to stay on track and follow the right path to succeed and proceed to college.
While most other schools do not demand or put emphasizes on the achievements of the students or just let their students slack off without follow up and consequences. At AIMS schools, students are accountable and set on high standards of achievements. Students are encouraged the right way to fulfill their goals and dreams to go to college and excel.
AIMs schools has provided quality education for my children for seven years and if their charter is renewed AIMS school can provided education for another 5-7 years for other children.
Please, keep AIMS Charter Open and operating to fulfill the great academic need of the Oakland community.
My son is doing extremely well, academically, socially and is a leading figure at AIMS. AIMS has been instrumental in his journey of excellence. AIMS sets high expectations for the students. It may be quite a challenge for my son and other students but, they successfully takes on and exceed the challenge. For that, I am indebted.
As a parent, I can say the staff and teachers are very responsive, which is so important for me to be completely engaged with my son's academic progress.
I cannot imagine AIMS losing its charter. I would be forced to enroll my son into a private school. I prefer AIMS over private schools.
