I.-1 20-1335 Adoption by the Board of Education of Resolution No. 1920-0260 - George Floyd Resolution to Eliminate the Oakland Schools Police Department.
Education free from fear— particularly for our marginalized and disproportionately targeted students— NEEDS to happen in order to work towards equality. Get the police out of schools and create a nurturing and supportive learning environment for the next generation.
As a licensed foster parent in Alameda County and a resident of Oakland, I vehemently support the removal of Oakland Police Department officers from campuses of OUSD. It is unconscionable that this collusion between law-enforcement and our schools (meant to be a haven for safety and learning), has been going on for so many years to the detriment of our children of color. Please do the right thing and correct this terrible injustice that supports the school-to-prison pipeline (for black youth especially) and end this presence of police on school grounds. Do it tonight! We do not live in a police state. Our children should not attend school in one.
I am an Oakland teacher and resident of D1. I fully support the Black Organizing Project's plan for police free schools. I strongly urge you to vote in favor of the George Floyd Resolution as it stands, without amendments. You have the data, you have the support of the community. Take this crucial step to support our students and families TODAY.
OUSD students deserve to feel safe in school. I urge you to pass BOP’s George Floyd resolution to remove police from Oakland schools. The systemic racism that drives police brutality needs to be abolished in our country, our communities and our schools. Thank you.
I support the resolution, as an Oakland resident I fear for the physical and
psychological safety of my nieces, nephews, and countless other students of color in the Oakland Public School System. Studies show Black children are criminalized as early as 5 years old a la Kaia Rolle (NY Times). She was arrested out her school at 6 years old for having an “attitude” and “being aggressive”. Resources can instead be spent on mentors, interventionist, and counselors instead of having even our babies over policed and leaving elementary school in handcuffs.
Please include the dis/abiliy justice community in the process to develop a safety plan after police. Black students with dis/abilities are criminalized and mistreated by police and other similar entities in tragically disproportionate ways. Thanks.
As a resident in District 5, I want to first thank the Black Organizing Project for their work over the last decade in regards to the removal of Oakland School police from Oakland schools. I wholeheartedly support the George Floyd resolution without amendments or delays, and it feels even more imperative at a time like this to not expose Black youth to being re-traumatized by the presence of police. Youth should feel empowered, uplifted, and respected in any educational setting, and even more so Black and Brown youth that are continuously othered and marginalized by this racist society. Frankly, youth should be involved in this decision making process, but since they are not the final voters, you have a responsibility to advocate for them. I urge you to vote in favor of this resolution.
Hello my name is Kristen and I'm a resident of District 2. I stand with the Black Organizing Project to urge you to adopt the George Floyd Resolution with NO amendments to get police out of our schools. I want to thank the Black Organizing Project for their work for the past 10 years. Defund OUSD police today.
As an Oakland resident, I strongly support the George Floyd Resolution and implore you to vote YES without any amendments or alterations. Our children need more love and support to create a safe environment for learning and personal growth. Meeting children with armed police officers is violent. It induces trauma. Please vote to end your contract with your police department and truly dedicate all your energy and money to support our youth.
As a black woman who went to school with police presence, who witnessed the majority of police interactions and conflict to be with the black students even though we only made up 13% of the student body, I demand you to eliminate the Oakland School Police Department and pass Black Organizing Project's George Floyd Resolution TONIGHT without any amendments. Progressive change is in your power and hands tonight, listen to your community to defund the police, and redirect funds to programs that actually support students emotional, physical, social & psychological well-being.
I strongly support Black Organizing Project’s George Floyd resolution to eliminate OPD from OUSD. Listen to the youth! They are telling us that police don’t keep them safe - counselors and teachers and restorative justice programs and other resources keep them safe.
I am an Oakland resident and I support the George Floyd Resolution. I urge you to do what's right and eliminate the Oakland Police Department from our schools! Please pass this without amendment.

Police have no place in our schools, our students need more counselors teachers and nurses, and they need to be paid more.
